He married Doris Droeszler on September 7, 1968, at Immaculate Conception Church in Kieler. Dan was a farmer and worked at AY McDonald Manufacturing, retiring in 2010. Dan was a supervisor for the Jamestown Township, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Holy Name Society and Catholic Financial. Faith, family and farm were the most important to Dan. He loved to be outside farming, caring for his sweet corn, hunting, fishing, and giving his grandchildren Ranger rides. Dan also enjoyed time with his friends. Survivors include his wife, Doris; a daughter, Deanna (Steve) Ehrlich, of Hazel Green; three sons, Dale (Tina) Berning, of Hazel Green, Daryl (Tina) Berning, of Cuba City, and Dwaine (Sarah) Berning, of Kieler; eleven grandchildren, Nathan & Natalie Berning, Dustin Berning, Maggie & Cooper Allen, Isabelle, Avery and Laney Ehrlich, and Evelyn, Amelia and Ehli Berning; three sisters, Carol (Jim) Weber, of Platteville, Joanne Tobin, of Dubuque, and Mary (Phil) Austin, of Monroe; three brothers, David (Marie) Berning, of Freeport, Illinois, Charlie (Phyllis) Berning, of Menominee, Illinois, and Marty (Sheri) Berning, of Hazel Green; and his in-laws, Jerome and Mary Lou Puls, of Cuba City; George and Elaine Portzen, of Dubuque, Franny and Deb Droeszler, of Hazel Green, Jim and Janet Dietzel, of Kieler, Eldie and Ann Droeszler, of Hazel Green, Joe and Rita Placke and Dan and Lisa Droeszler, both of Cuba City. GALENA, Ill. - James C. Berning, 49, of 12621 W. Valley Drive, Galena, died suddenly Thursday, July 31, 2003, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Galena, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena. Friends also may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church for sharing of memories. He was born on Nov. 17, 1953, at the Cuba City (Wis.) Hospital, son of Harry and Joan Berning. He was the first baby born in the then new hospital. Jim was a lifelong resident of the Galena area, graduating from St. Mary's Catholic School in 1967, where he got his first taste of law enforcement as a patrol boy. He graduated from Galena High School in 1971, and began operating a dairy farm after graduation. In 1976, he joined the Jo Daviess County Mounted Patrol and in 1978, became a full-time deputy. Throughout his 26 years of law enforcement, he served as a deputy, firearms instructor, detective and road deputy. At the time of his death, he was an officer with the Galena Police Department. He married his best friend and the love of his life, Susan Stroebele Seitsinger on May 7, 1988. Jim served for six years in the Naval Reserves. He was an avid hunter, loved 4-wheeling and horseback trail riding in many states. He loved life and cared about people, whether it was talking to them around a campfire or while he was patrolling the streets of Galena. Jim and his wife were active members of National Congress of Old West Shooters, a group who dress in period costumes and shoot firearms of the 1860-1899 period. Jim also was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association. Surviving are his wife, Sue, a daughter from a previous marriage, Laura Berning, and a stepdaughter, Jessica Seitsinger, all of Galena; his parents, Harry and Joan Berning, of East Dubuque, Ill.; five brothers, Steve (Cathy), Bob (Mary Jane), Ronnie (Janine), Joe (Chris) and Dan (Laura); a sister, Mary (Andy) Cross; two brothers-in-law, Jay (Kris) Stroebele and Jon Stroebele; his mother-in-law, Lee Stroebele; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Doug, in 2001; and his father-in-law, Jerry Stroebele, in 1996.

He worked for over forty years as a tool and die maker at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works. From 1975 until present day he showed and owned commercial and registered sheep both locally and nationally. David served on the Farm Service Agency Board for nine years and also served for over ten years on the Lafayette County Board. He enjoyed history, playing euchre, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Gary Hesseling, 34, Platteville, died Thursday, July 8, 1982, at the Mercy Medical Center of Dubuque, Ia. Gary was born Dec. 2, 1947, at Dubuque, Ia. He was the son of George and Rosella Hesseling. He attended the Kieler grade school, the Holy Name Seminary in Madison, and was a Viet Nam veteran. On July 24, 1971, he married the former Mary Lu Nefzger. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison for two years and later transferred to University of Wisconsin-Platteville, where he graduated in 1978. For the past nine months he had been employed by the Engineering Department of the City of Platteville, and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Platteville. He was preceded in death by his father. Surviving are his wife, Mary Lu; three sons, Jason, Jarret and Matthew; his mother, Mrs. Rosella Hesseling, Kieler; one brother, George, West Chicago, Ill.; and five sisters, Mrs. David (Kay) Hammer, Cuba City, Mrs. James (Joan) Dorrell, Glen Ellyn, Ill., Mrs. Fred (Judy) Pertzborn, Verona, Mary Hesseling, Madison, and Mrs. John (Geralyn) Ames, Streamwood, Ill. Funeral services were held Saturday, July 10, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Kieler, with the Rev. Fr. Lambert Marx officiating. Burial was in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Kieler, where military gravesides rites were accorded by the Leo M. Kane Post 42 of Platteville. VERONA Fred J. Pertzborn, age 65, died at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, after a five-month battle with a grade IV glioblastoma multiforme brain tumor. He was born on Dec. 2, 1944, to Julius and Margaret (Frederick) Pertzborn and grew up in Martinsville. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Judy of Verona; daughters, Jennifer (Jeff) Comstock of Austin, Texas, Amanda of Madison, and Megan of Austin, Texas; and two beautiful granddaughters, Maggie Rose and Georgia Julie Comstock of Austin, Texas. He served in the Army from 1963 to 1966 and spent one tour in Vietnam. He worked for Waunakee Telephone from 1966 to 1968, until it was acquired by TDS. He worked at TDS from 1968 to 2006. After retirement, he went to work at Miller and Sons in Verona until the time of his illness. Fred made many friends wherever he went. He was an avid sports fan, particularly of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, Milwaukee Brewers and NASCAR (Matt Kenseth). He was a proud member of the Verona Optimists, Knights of Columbus and a Schools of Hope volunteer. He is further survived by his parents, Julius and Margaret of Waunakee; a brother, Donald (Suzi) of Springfield Corners; and a sister, Cathy (Stan) Dohm of Dane. He is also survived by a large group of extended family and friends. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 301 N. Main St., Verona, on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at 11 a.m. with Father William Vernon celebrating. A visitation will also take place at the church on Friday, March 19, 2010, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m., and also on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Cuba City, Wis. - Daniel J. "Muck" McAuliffe, 42, of Cuba City died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Mercy Health Center St. Joseph's Unit, Dubuque. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, Dickeyville, with the Rev. Francis Steffen officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Casey Funeral Home, Cuba City, where there will be parish wake services at 4 p.m. He was born on Nov. 2, 1955, in Dubuque, son of John W. and Marcella (Hesseling) McAuliffe. Muck was an avid motorcyclist and a member of the Matadors. Before his illness, he had been vice president. He was very mechanically inclined and was good at fixing things. He was a good shot at pool and always seemed to hold a good hand in euchre. Surviving are his parents, John W. and Marcella McAuliffe, of Cuba City; a daughter, Arica McAuliffe, of Potosi; two sons, Joshua and Mitchell McAuliffe, of Potosi; a sister, Connie (Rich) Geyer, of Cuba City; three brothers, Bob J. Kathleen "Kathy" Sadewasser-Kelley, age 55, of Dubuque, died Friday, November 16, 2012, at her home under the care of Hospice of Dubuque. Kathy was born in Dubuque on May 19, 1957, a daughter of Donald and Darlene (Jaeggi) Dean. She worked as a nurse at several tri-state facilities, was a co-owner of MB Travel and Suzanne's Tanning, and plowed snow during the winter months. After Hurricane Katrina, Kathy coordinated the largest tri-state relief effort ever. Kathy enjoyed playing pool, cooking, traveling. She loved summer as it allowed for friends and family to gather around her makeshift fire pit, weeding in her garden full of "maters", and spending time on the water boating and fishing. She never forgot about her time with the Matadors. She was proud of her colors and the bonds she made. Kathy is survived by her husband, Steve Kelley; her three children, Arica (Justin) Pollard, Joshua (Alicia Boll) McAuliffe, and Mitchell (April) McAuliffe; three step-children, Keith (Maria) Kelley and Kristy (Mike) Banwarth and Emmy Kringle; three grandchildren, Keira, Maverick & Gus; grandmother, Della Jaeggi; her siblings, Paul (Kristy) Dean, Marilyn (Chuck) Housner, Dave (Kay) Dean, Debbie (Chuck) Lange, and Rita (Curt) McMahon; and many nieces, nephews, and other loving relatives & friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, James Dean; and her dog, Sparky. Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at the Free Methodist Church in Platteville, with pastors Jeff Suits and Jim McMahon officiating. Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery in Tennyson. Friends called from 5 pm to 8 pm on Monday, November 19 at the Free Methodist Church, and one hour prior to the service at church on Tuesday. Jane Marie Budden, 66, of Platteville, passed away peacefully at her home early Saturday, November 19, 2011. Jane was born on April 22, 1945 in Hazel Green, Wisconsin, the daughter of Francis and Jane (Coulthard) Hoppenjan. She was united in marriage to Ronald Budden on August 23, 1975 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Elk Grove. She graduated from Cuba City High School in 1963. She was a Ward Clerk at Gray's Nursing Home and Parkview Terrace Nursing Home, both in Platteville, for many years before farming with her husband. She loved flowers, crocheting, reading, doing crossword puzzles. Jane especially loved to spend time with her family and grandchildren and collecting salt and pepper shakers. She is survived by her husband, Ron; son, Cory Budden of Platteville; four daughters, Jolene (Matt) Ubersox of Darlington; Julie (Kirk) Antonson of Platteville; Jodi Budden of Madison; Jean (special friend, Brandon Beranek) Budden of Chippewa Falls, WI; two grandchildren, Kyle and Alyssa Antonson; brothers and sisters in law, Joan Hoppenjan of Belleville, WI; Paul & Chris Budden, Marie & David Langkamp all of Platteville; Pauline & Steve Byrnes of Mineral Point, WI; and nieces and nephews. Jerry P. Hesseling, age 56, of Kieler, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011, at his home surrounded by his family. Jerry was born on Jan. 4, 1955, to Leonard and Colleen (Linden) Hesseling in Dubuque, Iowa. He attended Holy Ghost Grade School, Cuba City High School and Southwest Vocational School in Fennimore. He married Rita Dalsing on June 3, 1978, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler. He worked both as a flight nurse for Air Evac Lifeteam and as a registered nurse in the Finley Hospital Emergency Room. Jerry was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Kieler, Jamestown EMS and Fire Department and Dickeyville Rescue Squad. He was proud of being an EMS/nursing educator, playing bass guitar for various local bands, latest being "Key of G" and time spent with his granddaughters, family and friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Jerry is survived by his wife, Rita of Kieler; two sons, Cory (Sarah) Hesseling and their children Hailey and Madison of Watertown, and Tyler (Kelly) Hesseling of Mount Horeb; his mother, Colleen (stepfather, Gilbert) Kunkel of Dickeyville; and two brothers, Joe (Wanda Rolfing) Hesseling of Capitan, N.M., and Kevin (Michelle) Kunkel of Pecatonica, Ill. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard; his grandparents; father-in-law, Linus Dalsing; and a niece, Kailee Kunkel. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 28, 2011, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kieler with Father Bernie Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Bill was born on July 1, 1971, in Dubuque, Iowa, the son of Dorrance A. and Susan F. (Holland) Averkamp. Graveside services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 13, 2015, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas. Also, a Memorial Celebration of Bill's life will be from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday for relatives and friends at "The Taste"on Highway 20, rural Menominee. The Miller Funeral Home of East Dubuque is serving the family. He was a 90% disabled Naval SeeBee Veteran who served in Iraq and Kuwait and did three tours at the Mexican border. He loved watching the Picker's Reality TV show and the history channel; was a browser on Craigslist. Bill loved his country and friends. He will be missed dearly by all who had the pleasure of meeting him. A Celebration of Life will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 26, 2012, at St. Rose of Lima Church in Cuba City with Rev. David Flanagan officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. Wednesday at Casey Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cuba City where the parish wake service will be at 2:45 p.m. There will be private family only visitation on Thursday at the funeral home before the service. Julie was born on October 15, 1981, in Cuba city, Wisconsin, the daughter of Charles and Darlene (Hinderman) Hoppenjan. She graduated from Cuba City High School in 2000 and from UW-LaCrosse in 2004. Julie worked in human resources at CDW/Berbee in Madison. She married Kevin (K.C.) Haldeman on October 3, 2009, at his parents' cabin in Phillips, Wisconsin. Julie loved traveling and trying new things. She enjoyed gardening and was passionate about eating and cooking healthy, and trying to educate others on healthier living. She loved spending time with family, friends and kitties, taking care of her godchild, Landon, and going to movies. Julie was artsy, recently occupying her time making hand made greeting cards for family and friends. She had a great sense of humor--the type of personality that everyone gravitates toward. Julie was very special and loved by all. Survivors include her husband, Kevin (K.C.), of Madison; her parents, Chuck and Darlene Hoppenjan, of Cuba City; her sister, Teri (Jamie) Rupp, of Monroe; her brothers, Randy Hoppenjan, of Cuba City, and Dan (Liz) Hoppenjan, of Cottage Grove; her nieces, Tiffany Hopppenjan and Taylor Bechen; her nephews, Cody Bechen, Samuel Rupp, and Landon Hoppenjan; her paternal grandmother, Romona Hoppenjan, of Cuba City; her father and mother-in-law, Larry and Donna Haldeman, of Marshfield; and her sister-in-law, Melanie Haldeman, of St. Paul, Minnesota. Ade was an avid golfer at Cole Acres Golf Course and a huge Green Bay Packers fan. He was a member of the Cuba City Lions Club, serving as president, and a member of St. Rose of Lima Church. Ade had a great love for his family especially his two beautiful grandchildren. He was a person who would help anyone at anytime. Eldon A. Beau, 65, Prairie du Chien, formerly of Shullsburg, died Aug. 15, 2006 at Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center, La Crosse, following a short illness. He was bom Aug. 8, 1941 on a farm near Shullsburg, the son of Herman and Marjory (Averkamp) Beau. He married Linda Lyne on April 27, 1966. Eldon worked as a line setup person for Dura Automotive Industries, Stockton, Ill. Also during this time he owned and operated a truck farm called B & B Produce and Production, raising fruit and vegetables, from 1973 until his retirement in 2004, when he sold the business. He later, moved to Prairie du Chien. He is survived by three children: Mark A. Beau and Sharon L. Gates, both of Prairie du Chien; David H. Brickner, Bellevue, Neb.; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nine siblings: Dick Beau, Bob Beau, Jim Beau, Joe Beau, Michael Beau, Ruth Beau, Nancy Gumz, Susie Brikett and Maryjo Wehrspann. Friends called Aug. 18 at the Thornburg- Hanson Funeral Home, Prairie du Chien, and Aug. 19 at the Furlong Funeral Home, Shullsburg. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Shullsburg

He served his country for twenty-one years serving in the Marines, Army and Navy until his honorable discharge. Mike was united in marriage to Rebecca Thies on April 18, 1980 in Darlington and she preceded him in death on August 20, 2001. After retirement from military service he worked for Cardinal Health and Design Homes. He volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul Store and meal sites both in Shullsburg. Mike enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. He is survived by a son, Adam (Sarah) of Lake Villa, IL, two grandchildren, Braiden and Allison, four brothers, Dick (Patti) of Benton, Bob (Arnetta) of Independence, IA, Jim (Leslie) of Benton and Joe (Betty) of Benton, three sisters, Nancy (Ray) Gumz of Winnebago, IL, Susan (Roger) Birkett of Dickeyville, WI and Mary Jo Wehspann of Platteville, WI, his mother in-law, Helen Thies, three brothers in-law, John, Thomas and Michael Thies, one sister in-law, Carol Thies, many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother, Eldon and two sisters, Ruth and Penny.

Tammy Lynn Peters-Lett, 42, of Oshkosh, died at St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee on June 1, 2011, after a lengthy illness, peacefully with her family at her side. She was born in Shawano on July 11, 1968, a daughter of Kenneth and Toni Barnes Bundick. Tammy was a 1986 graduate of Oshkosh North High School. She had been employed as a waitress at Pizza Hut and most recently as waitress at Planeview Travel Plaza. Tammy enjoyed needlepoint, was an avid reader and loved being a mother. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth David Averkamp, Appleton, Tanner Lett, Menasha; one daughter, Hanna Lett, Menasha; parents, Kenneth and Toni Bundick, Oshkosh; grandmother, Flora Munoz, Keshena; grandmother, Marie Bundick, Sunny Isle, Fla.; one brother, Patrick (Traci) Peters, Oshkosh; one uncle, Mario Munoz, Keshena; four aunts, Laurie Barnes, Keshena, Roberta (Guy) Grignon, Keshena, Ardith Barnes, Gresham, Kristie (Larry) Lindner, Gresham; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a special cousin, Beth (Ron) Waukau, Gresham. Funeral services for Tammy will be held at Konrad-Behlman Funeral Home-Westside on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at 1:30 p.m. with the Rev. James Jugenheimer officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. to the time of service. Interment will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery. A memorial has been established for her children. Special thanks to the doctors and ICU staff at Aurora Medical Center, Oshkosh, and St. Luke's Medical Center, Milwaukee, for their care and compassion. The family wishes to thank all of our relatives and friends for their assistance and support through this very difficult time.

MADISON - Kathryn Susan "Katie" Udelhofen-Clark, age 32, died peacefully in the company of family on Saturday, July 16, 2016, in her parents' home in Madison. Born in Madison on April 28, 1984, Katie grew up in Fitchburg and attended Verona schools where she excelled in vocal music and drama. She earned her bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and her master's degree from the University of Illinois-Urbana-Champaign in social work. She was tirelessly devoted to helping people suffering with mental illness and addiction, and was always there to put others' needs in front of her own. In 2009 she married Peter Clark of Milwaukee, and while living in Boulder, Colo., they welcomed to the world their daughter, Grace Elizabeth, in 2013. Later that year they moved to Baltimore, Md. It was there that Katie provided in-home mental health counseling. She loved her work. In July of 2015 she was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia. For a year she was under the excellent care of the medical staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore where she underwent several treatments including a bone marrow transplant from her brother, Brian. She endured these treatments with incredible courage and strength, and throughout continued to put others first. While these treatments did allow her to spend more valuable time with her beloved daughter and other loved ones, ultimately the cancer took her life. There was nothing more important to Katie than family, her fondest memories being family vacations in Door County, various trips with her mom and extended visits to southwest Wisconsin to spend time with her grandparents and their close-knit community in Hazel Green, Wis. Many described Katie as having an old soul, someone who easily connects with people, often generations older than her own. In April of this year, her grandfather, Fred Aide, passed away at 92, and despite her weakened condition she flew from Baltimore to Wisconsin to give the eulogy at his memorial service. She also loved seeing her daughter playing with first and second cousins, their laughter and silliness bringing her joy all the way to the last days of her life. She is survived by her husband, Peter; daughter, Grace; mother, Susan; father, John; brother, Brian and sister-in-law, Erin, and their children, Genevieve and Sebastian; grandmother, Elsie Mae; and a multitude of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, coworkers and classmates.
